About CERT

Mission
The Council of Energy Resource Tribes’ mission is to support the member Tribes as they develop their management capabilities and use their energy resources as the foundation for building stable, diversified self-governing economies; according to each Tribe's own values and priorities.

National Tribal Energy Vision
(In 1999, over sixty Tribal leaders gathered to develop this vision.) By the year 2010, each sovereign Indian Tribe will have a sufficient and reliable supply of electricity at reasonable costs to support its social and economic wellbeing.

Four components of the National Tribal Energy Vision are: accessing federally discounted and Tribal preference allocations from Federal Power Marketing Administrations; increasing power generation for local use including renewable energy generation and distributed generation; promoting energy efficiency and conservation programs on Tribal lands; and gaining full access to existing and new transmission systems.

The Council of Energy Resource Tribes is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation.
All contributions are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

The CERT Tribes are 10% of 530 Indian Tribes in the lower 48 states and Alaska; 60% of all Indians living in Tribal homelands; and 55% of all Indian lands in the lower 48 states.
